Straight answer

No, I'm not based in Georgetown — and for this work it matters less than you'd think.

Level Up Technologies is in Frankfort, 25 minutes away on 460. I say that up front. What matters for network work isn't which town the van starts in, it's whether anybody walks the building before quoting. Plenty of companies will sell you a network over the phone from a floor plan or a photo. That's how you end up with access points in the wrong places and a quote that changes once the work starts.

Wi-Fi is a physical problem before it's a technical one. It's about what the walls are made of, how far it is from the closet to the far corner, what's stacked in between, and what else nearby is shouting on the same channel. That's why buying a better router off the shelf so often changes nothing — the router was never the reason.

Scott County buildings

Georgetown breaks Wi-Fi in some very specific ways.

Metal shops and industrial units

The supplier and machine-shop buildings out toward the interstate are essentially steel boxes, and steel is the single worst thing you can put between an access point and a laptop. Coverage has to be planned around it, not fought with.

Warehouses and racking

Open floor when it's empty, a maze when it's full. Signal that tested fine in an empty building disappears once the racking is loaded, which is why handhelds and scanners drop out exactly when you're busiest.

Historic Main Street

Downtown Georgetown is old brick with thick party walls between storefronts. Great buildings, terrible for signal, and the internet usually enters wherever the phone line happened to land decades ago.

Outbuildings and acreage

Farms and properties out in the county with a shop, barn or second office well away from the house. That's not a Wi-Fi problem, it's a link problem, and it needs a different answer.

What's actually wrong with your Wi-Fi?

Tick whatever sounds like your building. Each one points at something specific — these symptoms have genuinely different causes, which is why one-size fixes usually don't work.

  • Likely: coverage, not speedYou need an access point closer to that area, not faster internet. Upgrading your internet package will do nothing at all for this, though plenty of people get sold one anyway.
  • Likely: racking and roamingClassic warehouse problem. Devices hang onto a distant access point instead of handing over cleanly, and stock height changes the map. This needs proper placement and roaming set up, not another repeater.
  • Likely: capacity or channel congestionOne consumer router trying to hold thirty devices, or fighting with every other network nearby on the same channel. The fix is real access points and sensible channel planning.
  • Likely: a weak edgeYour terminal sits at the edge of coverage and keeps letting go. This is the one that costs you money in front of a customer, and it's usually fixable in an afternoon.
  • Likely: failing or overloaded hardwareSomething is filling up and falling over on a cycle. Consumer gear run around the clock in a business does this. A reboot clears the symptom and guarantees it comes back.
  • Likely: everything above, eventuallyLoose power bricks and unlabeled cords mean every fix starts with an hour of tracing wires, and a knocked cable takes you offline for no reason anyone can find. This is the job I do most.
  • Likely: needs a real link, not more Wi-FiPast a certain distance, extenders stop being an answer. That's either a cable in the ground, a point-to-point link, or its own connection — and out in the county, sometimes Starlink is the honest answer.

I don't publish a flat price for network work because it would be a made-up number. One access point in an open office and full coverage across a loaded warehouse are not the same job, and pretending otherwise just means the quote changes later.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Will a better router fix this?

Usually not. If the problem is distance, walls, steel or the number of devices, a faster router in the same spot changes nothing. That's the most common thing people buy before calling me, and it's why I look at the building first.

Can you cover a warehouse properly?

Yes, and it's a different job from covering an office. Stock height changes coverage, so it has to be planned for the building full rather than the building empty. If someone quotes you warehouse Wi-Fi without walking it, be careful.

You're in Frankfort. Is that a problem?

Twenty-five minutes on 460. For install work you're booking a day anyway, and for faults I get out the same day where I can. I'll tell you straight if I'm committed elsewhere.

Can you work around production or opening hours?

Yes. Cable pulls and switch changes are disruptive, so for shops and retail I'd rather do the noisy part before you open, after you close, or on a shutdown.

Can you separate customer Wi-Fi from ours?

Yes, and you should. Guests on the same network as your point-of-sale and your files is a risk with no upside. It's a small piece of work.

What if there's no good internet at the site?

Then we look at Starlink. I survey, mount and integrate it properly rather than leaving a dish on the ground pointed hopefully at the sky.
